Axbent, external combustion (steam piston) engines are really VERY inefficient. It takes hundreds of pounds of fuel to keep the fire lit all day, let alone produce enough heat to actually do “work”. Most of the heat energy goes right up the flue pipe.

With all the needed processing for the fuel, are gasifiers still efficient? An external combustion engine could make power with just normal logs!

My Dad was thinking about building a massive version of this to power our greenhouse business. We burn saw dust to heat it right now but we would like to figure something out for running all the motors a little cheaper. In winter we burn 3 to 4 semi loads of saw dust in a week
