Save Money With a Wood Burning Furnace

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010
D. Taylor asked:

With the cost of oil and gas always on the rise, a very good way to save considerable money on your monthly heating bills is with a wood burning furnace. Not only is wood cheaper than oil, gas or propane but it is much more environmentally friendly to burn it. Fossil fuels release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This is widely believed to be one of the contributing factors of the green house effect which is variable of global warming. Not only does burning wood circumvent this environmental danger, it also has the effect of clearing the forest floor of fallen timber which allows for new growth.

It is hard to say exactly how much you will save by using a wood furnace. The equation depends on what type of fuel you currently use and what access if any you have to wood. Propane for example is four times more expensive than wood so it is logical to assume that you will save 75% when purchasing wood over propane.

If you have access to wood as a resource than your savings will be any greater. Even if you do not, you can order wood and have it delivered for ease of convenience. Seasoned wood is best to use. That means use last year’s wood and not this year’s wood.

An outdoor wood furnace works well for people who do not have a basement or may live in a mobile home with no other place to put a traditional furnace. Look for outdoor wood furnace built out of top quality stainless steel parts and built to weather the elements.
